Exam Question;

You pull someone over in the road side as a police officer for a rolling stop through a stop sign and late model European vehicle. They insist that they need a break, they are almost home as they live just down there. You ask them for ID, registration and insurance and he insists that it was just a rolling stop and asks for you to give him a break. You have approached the vehicle, the driver's window is rolled down and there is a second individual in the passenger seat.

What do you do? You do not know they are heavily armed and could have a sawed off shot gun.

A) Ask them to step outside of the vehicle.

B) Do not ask them to step outside of the vehicle and give them a break.

C) Do not stand in front of a window totally rolled down if at all possible and do not ask them or any other drivers to step outside of the vehicle in a decision not to risk your life. Ask them to roll it down enough so that you can hear them. You also decide that three refusals or failures not to comply with the demand is usually enough to ask them to step out of the vehicle. But, they can stay in the vehicle and at least confirm their name through the glass or slightly rolled down as you are certainly now going to charge them for resisting an officer in the course of their duties. They should provide their information on the first request and so should you. If they did, then, you could let them go on a break. He didn't give his name clearly. But, instead you decide to let them sit in the vehicle where you still have the upper hand and they are boxed in. You at least ask him for his name and the name and plates do not match. You tell them to stay in the vehicle and then you call for back up to help you with this transaction.
